What is Endodontics ?

Endodontics is concerned with study and treatment of dental pulp which is the inner most of tooth out of 3 layers of a tooth. Endodontic Treatment includes a variety of dental procedures viz. Root Canal treatment(RCT), Treating cracked teeth, apexogenises, apexification etc

What is Root Canal?

At the centre of every tooth is a hollow area that houses nerve and blood vessels called PULP. So this pulp (hollow area) contains wide space in coronal portion called pulp chamber and in the roorts se canals run through the centre of roots, similar to the way pencil lead runs through pencil.

A Root canal treatment is necessary when a deep cavity extends upto the pulp chamber of the tooth.

Occassionally a root canal treatment may be necessary in case of periodontal( deep gum infections).

What is Root Canal Treatment ?

Root Canal therepy is the treatment where in the pulp chamber is cleaned out, the space is debrided and disinfected & then filled.

The treatment consist of following steps. case study

a) First opening is made.

b) After that diseased pulp is removed, the pulp chamber and root canal are cleaned, enlarged and shaped.

c) Temporary filling is placed in the crown opening to protect the tooth between dental visits if the root canal treatment is to be done in 2 or 3 visits.

d) The canals are then permanently filled with tapered rubbery material called ‘gutta percha’ is inserted into each of canals along with a sealer or sealing material.

e) Most of the times we place a fiber rod called ‘post’ is placed in canal to add support to the broken down tooth structure.

f) The core is then built up with resin material.

g) In final step a crown is placed over tooth to restore its natural shape & color.

Technology involved in Endodontic treatment

Root Canal treatment is one of the last options of saving a badly carious tooth.

And because we only can see canal opening not whole canal, accuracy is very much important during procedure.

At Dr. Saluja’s family dental care centre, we understand the importance of accuracy and to achieve that we use all the latest technologies possible like digital x-ray in which we can see any object in magnified view.

We are using intraoral camera so that we can also involve patient during treatment.

We are also using accuracy enhancing technologies like “Apex Locators” and “endomotors” that can help us achieve our goal of a long lasting root canal treatment.
